Fatigue, sleepiness, unrefreshing nights, waking up at night, snoring ... perhaps you
suffer from sleep apnea syndrome? Sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder that significantly
increases cardiovascular risk, promotes high blood pressure and rhythm disorders. It is
often (but not always) associated with obesity.
It can be diagnosed using nocturnal
ventilatory polygraphy. This test collects respiratory data during sleep. The device has
several sensors: a nasal sensor to record respiratory flow, two thoraco-abdominal
sensors to detect respiratory movements, and a finger saturometer to measure oxygen
saturation. A medical assistant will set up the device and help you fit it. You will
then take the device home with you, trying not to change your sleeping habits. Your
results will be sent to you by e-mail, followed if necessary by a consultation if
further treatment is required.
If you've had recent analyses, don't forget to bring them with you. You can also prepare for the appointment by recording your food intake over 24 hours (optional).
